TANZANIA: Pinda appeals to Tanzanians living abroad to bring tractors

Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda has called on Tanzanians living abroad to bring tractors to the country in order to transform the current hand hoe farming into a modern farming.

Speaking to Tanzanians living in Ireland over the weekend, Pinda commended them for assisting their families and relatives back home, but said it would be better if they would support agricultural sector in the country by bringing in tractors.

"We cannot continue using hand hoes. I appeal to you to bring tractors and power tillers. The government does not charge import tax on agricultural equipments," he said.

Pinda said the economic situation in the country had improved contrary to some media reports.

He said the government was striving to attain its development goals.

Pinda said Tanzania was not a country of corrupt people. He said currently the government revenue had increased from 25bn/- per month in 1994 to 300bn/- per month this year.

He said the government was taking legal actions against suspected corrupt officials.

The premier urged them to abide the Ireland is laws. He also commended them for forming a strong unity away from home.

He contributed euro 2,000 to support their efforts in raising funds for development activities.
