Kings, Sentinel lift Basketball Championship

basketballHARARE - The Bulawayo Basketball League came to an end last week with Kings winning their first championship title since joining the city's premiership, five years ago.

In the women’s division, Sentinels emerged the winners as both defending champions, Giants and Highlanders in the men and women’s category respectively, losing their titles.

Kings Team Manager, Joe Mujuru, told a local news organization he was happy his side made it to the top for the first time having only managed to finish as runners-up in previous years.

We are very happy that our hard work has finally paid off for our boys, as they have been playing second best since our team’s registration in the basketball league.

This is the best Easter present that the team has received in the five seasons that we have played in the league considering the fact that we were three times runners-up to Extreme Giants and once to Highlanders, said Mujuru.

Garikai Gumbo, Dion Manyange and Liberty Nyathi have been pivotal in powering Kings to their first championship title ahead of first and second runners’ up, Extreme Giants and Highlanders respectively.
