The refugees, some of them former MDC political activists, argued with
the organisers at the church's entrance for more than three hours and
not even the intervention of Bishop Paul Verryn could deter them.
The celebrations were later postponed and have since been re-scheduled for Pretoria this Saturday.

JOHANNESBURG - An Independence Day celebration that had been scheduled for Johannesburg's Central Methodist Church failed to take place last Saturday, after Zimbabwean refugees blocked the entries to the church, arguing that they had nothing to celebrate under President Robert Mugabe's continuing leadership of their country.
