WARRIORS FIFA RANKINGS PLUMMET FURTHER

zimbabwe_national_team.jpgZimbabwe's Warriors have fallen four places down the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) rankings as a result of inactivity in the last month.

The latest FIFA rankings, released today by the football governing
body, places the men's senior soccer national team at 106 after losing
16 points from March.

At 329 points, the underachieving team is 1 400 adrift of world
champions Spain, who maintained a stranglehold on the number one spot
after impressive performances in the World Cup 2010 qualifiers and
European friendly matches.

The Zimbabwe national team has not been active this year after failing
miserably in the qualifiers for the 2010 African nations Cup and the
FIFA 2010 world Cup that neighbouring South Africa will host.

Grouped in a pool that included unheralded Kenya, Namibia and Guinea,
Zimbabwe's chances of going through looked bright but the team lurched
from defeat to draw to bow out.

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe women's senior national team is still wallowing
in the lower echelons of the Federation of the FIFA world rankings.

According to the latest FIFA rankings that have been released, The
Mighty Warriors, as the Zimbabwean ladies are popularly known, are
placed a lowly 90 in the 109-nation rankings.

At 1 167 points, and tied with fellow African nation Democratic Republic of Congo, having gained no points from December.

The female Warriors, who have in past seasons fared better than their
male counterparts, are 1 028 points adrift of the best ranked team, the
United States of America.

Zimbabwe has not participated in any major tournaments in recent months
after failing in their bids to qualify for the Women's FIFA World Cup
and the CAF Championships.
