HARARE - The Confederation of African Rugby has moved the 2011 Under-19 World Cup qualifiers from Zimbabwe to Kenya, due to fears of a cholera epidemic that

The epidemic is however well under control with fewer new infections or deaths from the disease in recent months after the World Health Organisation and other international relief agencies moved in to help local authorities combat the cholera epidemic.

Zimbabwe Rugby Union president Themba Sibanda last week expressed displeasure at the CARs decision to pull the qualifiers from Zimbabwe, a move he said would dampen efforts to improve and boost the development of the local game.

The tournament has been taken away from us because CAR claim that there is still a cholera outbreak though it is not clear where they base it on, said Sibanda.

The junior rugby championship qualifiers that were due to take place from August 19-29, would have seen Zimbabwe playing host to five nations, Namibia, Tunisia, Cote dIvoire, Uganda and Kenya in a ten day tournament that was set for Harare.

Sibanda said: Hosting such a tournament of high magnitude would have helped us attract people to get involved in the development of the game. It was going to help us boost our talent in terms of performance on the field and in administration.

Zimbabwe will however look to make the most out of their misfortune when they travel for the qualifiers in Kenya by securing a place in the 2011 global rugby showpiece set for New Zealand.

The Young Sables, as the Zimbabwe junior side is known, last qualified for the Under-19 World Cup when they beat Morocco to book a ticket to the 2007 finals held in Ireland.

The Young Sables missed this years edition of the World Cup that was held in Japan.

Meanwhile, the Sevens rugby side that missed the Tangiers Sevens in Morocco earlier this month due to lack of funding is scheduled to participate in the Castle Sevens, in Zambia from June 13- 15.

The Cheetahs will be hoping to defend their title in Zambia ahead of the Kenya Safari Sevens scheduled for June 19-21.
