Firstly, the MDC Pretoria District has four branches in Pretoria East and does not have a single branch in any squatter settlement in that area. Secondly, the MDC Pretoria District already has an elected District executive. It is unprincipled and unprofessional for any leader to go into an area without the local leaderships knowledge and conduct a rally. What District structure did Rodgers install when there was already an existing one elected democratically by the people of Pretoria which is effectively managing the District’s affairs and programmes?
Thirdly, it is utter ignorance to tell the “New District structure” to create more structures. Pretoria District currently has 17 branches. In the article it appears as if there is nothing at all.
I would like to save our members from this misinformation and highlight the true picture on the ground. The problems facing the MDC SA emerged after the Bloemfontein congress. The congress was marred by vote rigging and whilst we were still pondering on the way forward after the elections that we did not agree to, a group of renegades having lost the elections staged a political coup and ousted the elected structure. They went on to misrepresent the facts to the National council and informed them that they were a democratically elected Provincial structure.
Pretoria district engaged with the so called Provincial structure and told them that we should hold proper elections and not impose ourselves in office. This was met with resistance and we in no uncertain terms declared that we would not recognise them since they were an unelected and illegitimate structure which is a negation of our principles of democracy. Our knowledge of democracy and theirs differ. They then started inciting a revolt.
These parallel structures are made up of their sympathisers and were established to cause confusion and weaken those Districts. However, while they continue to engage in unfair tactics, we are in the process of engaging the National council so that MDC SA is led by democratically elected people. LOVEMORE KODZI, Pretoria
