Madonna donated $19 million to Malawi

US pop queen Madonna donated $19 million to help Malawian children before the Supreme Court of Appeal approved her adoption bid on Chifundo Mercy James, it has been reported.

The international media have insinuated that the pop queen was allowed to adopt Chifundo because of the huge sums she has given Malawi to fund orphan aid projects.

UKs The Mirror newspaper reported on Saturday that the singer donated 12 million to fund six orphanages in Malawi as well as paying for shoes, clothes, books and mosquito nets for impoverished children in the country.

It smacks of bribery. How can they refuse her requests when she gives Malawi so much? The Mirror quoted a worker at an international welfare agency.

Supreme Court of Appeal overturned a previous High Court ruling that stopped Madonna from adopting four-year-old Chifundo.

However, despite the international media insinuation that the adoption was approved because of the whooping $19 million donation, Malawians have warmly welcomed the ruling allowing the rich celebrity to take Chifundo to the United States.

Madonna is also reported to have phoned Chifundo and read her a letter of motherly devotion written with daughter Lourdes, 12, according to The Sun of UK which was the first to break the news that adoption approval ruling would be handed not later that Sunday.

Today is your new birthday, my darling daughter, as it is the day you came to me. It is a new beginning for us all. The world is ours to change together now. I promise I will love, protect and guide you with my every breath.

I cant wait to welcome you to your new home, my beautiful child. You are part of us now of me, Lola, Rocco and David. You are so loved, The Sun quotes Madonna.

A private jet is said to be on standby to fly the girl to New York as soon as her papers are ready. She will then be reunited with Madonna, her new sister Lourdes, 12, and brothers Rocco, eight, and David, three.
