Cara Black impresses on rankings

cara_black__copyHARARE - Zimbabwes top female tennis player, Cara Black, was last week ranked the worlds number two doubles tennis player after passing Natasha Zvereva to trail behind Martina Navratilova. The 30-year-old tennis great, became No.1 for the first time on October 17, 2005 until Samantha Stosur took over on February 5, 2006.

She regained the spot on June 11, 2007 after Roland Garros, but relinquished it two weeks later to Lisa Raymond. It wasnt for long, though, as Black began her third and current stint on July 9, 2007 after winning Wimbledon.

“I am so pleased to have moved into second spot on the most weeks for No.1 list,” Black said. “It is such an honour to be up there with so many great players. I still have quite a way to go to catch Martina. Black looks forward to future tournaments as she acknowledges her partnership with Liezel Huber as the best.

“Liezel and I have had such a great run the last few years. It has been a lot of fun and we are still really enjoying it. We are looking forward to the hard court season coming up and especially the US Open,” she said.

She made her maiden Sony Ericsson WTA Tour doubles performance in 1998 to scoop her first title in 2000 partnering Alexandra Fusai, in Auckland. Winning have since been her habit.
