Female soccer might miss out

zifaBULAWAYO - The country stands to miss out in the qualifiers of some major female football continental and international tournaments as the Zimbabwe Football Association has professed ignorance about new deadlines.

The deadline for the engagements for the 7th African Women’s Championship, African preliminaries for the FIFA Under-20 and Under-17 Women World Cup, and the Second African Futsal Champions is Thursday July 31.

This was revealed by CAF in a mail to member countries.

However, when contacted for comment, Wellington Nyatanga, the ZIFA president, said

he was not aware of such a development.

“We will have to get back to you about that, he said in a telephone interview.

Sources said ZIFA was yet to respond to the CAF invitation made three months ago.

Currently Zimbabwe has no running league, except the Bulawayo League bankrolled

by LG Foods.

The last U-20 Women’s World Championships were held in Chile, from November

20 to December 7, 2008.

A year before the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2011, Germany will be the hosts of

the U-20 Women’s World Cup 2010.
