Japanese grant to fight cholera

RUSAPE In an endeavour to assist the suffering masses of Zimbabwe, selected primary schools in Makoni, Rusape in Manicaland province are set to benefit from a US$220 000 grant from a Japanese donor to fight cholera.

Japanese ambassador to Zimbabwe, Koichi Morita, confirmed the donation while officiating at the handover ceremony of cholera prevention tool kits in Makoni district.

The NGO, Japan Platform, donated the funds while the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) of Japan and ADRA Zimbabwe were jointly implementing the project.

Already, the NGO has facilitated the drilling of six boreholes at selected primary schools. Japan Platform has also rehabilitated 10 hand-washing facilities at primary schools in Makoni.

Washing hands with soap and other protective measures are indispensable in the fight against cholera, he said.

These people are helping us and we really appreciate their support at this time of needy, said a local teacher.
