Zambia: K700m earmarked for women groups

THE Government has set aside K700 million for business activities for women groups throughout Zambia, Community Development and Social Welfare Deputy Minister Moses Muteteka has said.

In an interview after his tour of Eastern Province, Mr Muteteka said womens groups that meet the criteria to access the funding would be supported.

In Eastern Province, I have given K40 million to clubs that applied and submitted their certificates, thereby meeting the threshold required to get the funding. I visited Chipata, Lundazi, Chama and Petauke districts, Mr Muteteka said.

He said the programme was ongoing and that he would visit other districts in Zambia to ensure that deserving women groups were empowered.

He said the Government, through his ministry, would not discriminate when it comes to empowering the womenfolk in the country.

My ministry has no boundary in reaching out to the people and as Government, it is our duty to provide and mitigate the suffering of the people, Mr Muteteka said.

He said the Government would take care of every citizen despite his or her political affiliation, race and religion.

We are in a hurry to foster national development for our people and especially our women who are the most vulnerable. We shall ensure that we touch every corner of Zambia through the empowerment project, Mr Muteteka said.
