According to a report by Monitor and Digest newspaper on 4 August 2009, Habaalu has since launched a complaint with Mongu Central Police.
It was in the morning last Friday around 11h00 when I received a phone call on a private number threatening to sort me out for writing a story on the Auditor Generals report of 2007. I was told that I had stepped on wrong toes and that they will track me down till i am dead, explained Habaalu.
In the evening of 31 July 2009, six unknown persons came to the lodge he was staying and violently knocked on his door for about 20 minutes but he did not allow them entry. The same group, he later discovered also went to check his time of departure from the province and from the bus service he intended to use. The Mongu Central Police confirmed having opening a docket and instituting investigations into the matter. MISA Zambia has also called on the Police in Western province to ensure that culprits were brought to book for threatening the life of the reporter.
