Zimfest dreams big

zimfest_1LONDON - Zimfest organisers are planning on making their successful festival a worldwide event. Hilton Mendelsohn, from WeZimbabwe, said: This year we are looking to start growing the festival to include events in Perth, Brisbane, Cape Town and Bulawayo. We have grown the festival each year by about 15 per cent on the back of teams of pure volunteers, slaving after work and in t

Thanks to the tears, blood and sweat of these unsung heroes, we now have one of the most powerful charity fests in the world and one of the best teams in place to really make it fly. Zimfest was started nine years ago by a group of Zimbabweans in the UK from every ethnic group. The festival has built itself incredible goodwill over the years.

Organisers say they have ironed out the hiccups of previous years and have hired a professional logistics company making sure there is loo roll, power to all amenities and security stopping fence jumpers once and for all.

The music mix is much more eclectic than previous years. Mike Tashaya, from the marketing team, said: One thing to consider is that the ticket limit is 5,000, and the tickets are selling fast, so anyone too complacent simply might not get in.

The money raised will go to a pre-school for 600 children in Hatcliffe Extension.

Tichakunda Pre-school, run by volunteers, is in desperate need of running water and the money will be used to sink a borehole.

Tickets are on sale now at 25 from www.zimfestlive.com.

This year’s Zimfest will be held on September 5 from 12pm to 10pm at Prince Georges Playing Fields in Raynes Park London.
