Lesabe says land reform not proper

BULAWAYO - Former Zanu (PF) politburo member Tenjiwe Lesabe, who defected to Zapu at the weekend, said the land reform programme was long delayed and not properly managed.
Lesabe, speaking at a Zapu meeting, said the idea for land reform came from Zapu but President Robert Mugabe, in a populist move, went on to grab land in a bid to claim that it was his sole idea to aid landless blacks.

Land reform is a Zapu programme and nobody can dispute that, but the way land was grabbed is not proper, said Lesabe. Zapu came into unity with Zanu (PF) in 1987, which means I never left the party. I entered the unity accord to represent Zapu and I am not afraid to stand for Zapu. Addressing the same meeting, the party chairman, Dumiso Dabengwa, said at the last congress their objective was to convince all Zapu leaders left in Zanu (PF) to quit that party and join the revived Zapu.
