South Africa Communiqu: SABC Board Shortlist Completed

sabcThe shortlisting of prospective candidate to be appointed on the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) board has been finalized. The selected candidates will appear for interview on 7 September 2009 next week, Parliament's portfolio committee on communications said on 2 September 2009.


Committee Chairperson Ismail Vadi expressed satisfied with the keen interest the public and civil society had shown in the process.
Meanwhile The Parliaments Communication Portfolio Committee on 2 September 2009 failed to reach consensus on shortlisting 30 prospective candidates out of the 239 received nominations, to serve on the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) board. The committee was locked up indoors the entire day trying to compose a shortlist of candidates. However it was adjourned to allow a task team to discuss the names of candidates who have been short listed. The team will discuss the shortlisted 30 candidates, that will be interviewed on 7 September 2009.
The shortlist of 30 candidates included members of the former board include Desmond Golding and Andile Mbeki. Well-known nominees include former IFP communications spokeswoman Susan Vos, former Progressive Federal party leader Frederik Van Zyl Slabbert, veteran journalist Max Du Preez, journalist Pippa Green, Tselane Tambo, Ben Ngubane and Khotso Khumalo. unionist Cedric Gina, former ambassadors Barbara Masekela, Tselani Tambo and academic Dr Danny Titus.
