Duo set for Singapore youth camp

HARARE Upcoming Zimbabwean athletes Happy Zingunzi and Hillary Ngani will fly the national flag high in Singapore when they represent the country at the Youth Olympic Games Friendship Camp in December.

The Zimbabwe Olympic Committee (ZOC) selected Zingunzi and Ngani a basketball and soccer player, respectively for the five-day youth camp set to begin on December 8.

The five-day camp, which targets participants aged between 14 and 18 years, will be hosted by the Singaporean education ministry in partnership with the Singapore Sports School and the Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organizing Committee (SYOGOC).

The camp, to which 205 nations send two representatives each to share ideas and socialise with other athletes from different backgrounds, is part of the Asian countrys preparations to host the inaugural Youth Olympic Games scheduled for August 14-26 next year.

ZOC general manager, Stanley Mutoya, believes the camp will enlighten the youths on the importance of the Olympic tournament that roars into life next year.

“The Singapore 2010 Friendship Camp is a special part of the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) and its goal is to promote the Olympic values among participants and providing them with a unique experience and opportunity to form life-long friendships,” said Mutoya.

The games are unique both as an offering and in their structure, with special focus on exposing athletes to Olympic Values Education through a well-designed Culture and Education Programme (CEP).
