Fears of luxury spending as Cosafa draws near

cosafa_tournamentHARARE - There are fears that hard earned tax payers money will be splashed on luxury spending by soccer administrators during the 14 country Cosafa Senior Challenge Tournament which is due to take off on October 17.

Investigations have revealed that a number of people with houses in Harare, including some senior members of the Zimbabwe National Soccer Supporters Association, have been booked in various hotels on full board. Sources at one of the four star hotels where bookings have been made, said that the Harare soccer personalities’ would enjoy a package that included all meals and have also been guaranteed free beverages.

Although Zifa Chief Executive Officer, Henrietta Rushwaya, denied this, a visit to some top hotels in Harare confirmed that reservations had already been made by Harare-based people during the three weeks of the competition.

The Cosafa Senior Challenge is being bankrolled by the government in an effort to uplift Zimbabwe’s battered image. Thousands of United States dollars released for the tournament will pay for the hotel bills amongst other expenses.
