RTG , in conjuction with the National Social Security Authority (NSSA) was preparing to build a five- star hotel in readiness for the 2010 soccer World Cup in South Africa. However , EMA, a government body, ordered the project to be halted because the group had not complied with environmental laws.
Regional EMA director, Descent Ndlovu said the project was stopped after realizing that RTG did not hold an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) permit.
We ordered RTG to stop the construction of the hotel because any land developer intending to embark on such a project should have an EIA certificate obtained from us, said Ndlovu.

No work will resume until the required conditions are met because the company violated the law and no-one is above the law, he said.
Beitbridge is the busiest inland port of entry in sub-Saharan Africa.

BEITBRIDGE---The Environmental Management Agency (EMA) has barred one of Zimbabwes largest hotel groups, Rainbow Tourism Group (RTG), from going ahead with the building of a five- star hotel here saying the company had not complied with environmental requirements.
