Farmers to pay annual rent

farmHARARE - New farmers with 99-year-leases are, with effect from this year, expected to pay annual rentals for the trading sites and infrastructure they found on the farms they were allocated.


The farmers and operators of trading sites will pay rentals ranging from US$30 per annum to US$400, depending on the type of business.

The rent has been decided as follows:

Farmers who took over a homestead at a farm – US$400 per year.

A residential stand and church minister’s residence found at the farm – US$60 per year.

Those running a dip tank – US$180 per year.

Cattle sales pen, fowl run, eating house/tea room, equipment shed and a

hair dressing salon – US$120 per year.

A butchery on their premises – US$300 per year.

An operation bottle store on site – US$240, those running a bar – US$220 per year.

Farms with a grinding mill or grain trading depot, general dealer or a guesthouse – US$240 per year.

A piggery – US$250 per year.

Annual rates for commercial and industrial activities:

Officials from the Ministry of Lands and Rural Resettlement have started

informing farmers of the rentals.
