ANSA to motivate up-coming talent

grace_karatteHARARE The Sports and Recreation Commission will celebrate Zimbabwes sporting icons with a new category at the Annual National Sports Awards set for tomorrow.

The awards will see sports personalities under the age of 10 being honoured for the first time, this year. Retired colonel Charles Nhemachena validated the new category as a vehicle to motivate upcoming sportspersons so that they aspire to be on top.

Those Under 10s were being disadvantaged, they were put to compete against those who are 18 and 19 who get more exposure to participate at international level. It is with this new category that we think we give the young stars a chance to be recognized for their sporting excellence, he said.

The junior sportswomen competing for the category will be swimmer Rutendo Naruta, karatekas Mitchel Kambanga and Tafadzwa Pasipanodya.
