Zim boxers fail to defend titles

boxingHARARE - Zimbabwean boxers are failing to defend their titles, a development which has forced the Zimbabwe Boxing Board Control to set a deadline of December 31 for all national title holders to defend their belts.

The Boxing Board Control Secretary, Patrick Mkondiwa, said that a circular had been sent to boxing promoters so that they could do their match making. So far only three boxers, including Pan African heavyweight champion Thamsanga Dube, have managed to defend their titles out of the more than 12 Zimbabwean boxing champions.

In addition, boxers also have to produce proof of their HIV and Hepatitis B tests before they are allowed to defend or challenge for the championships.
