Amnesiac left son on train

fathersonA Chinese man with memory problems left his son on a train - and didn't realise for five days.

Qu Yuxue, 44, of Changchun, northeast China’s Jilin province, has now been reunited with five-year-old Qu Pengxiang. But it took the absent-minded father two months to trace the little boy who had been sent to an orphanage, reports New Culture Express. Mr Qu and Pengxiang had taken a six hour train ride from Qiqihaer to Changchun but on arrival, the father got off alone, leaving the boy asleep. His wife had gone to stay with her parents after a row and it was five days before Mr Qu realised what he had done.

Mr Qu says he has suffered memory problems ever since an accident at work, when he was hit on the head by an iron bar, four years ago. “I didn’t dare to tell my wife I had lost our son so each time she called I would find some excuse not let her talk to him,” he said. Finally, his sister passed on the terrible news and the couple were reunited in the search for their son.

They contacted railway authorities and finally discovered that Pengxiang had got off the train alone after waking up. He was unable to explain what had happened to his parents so was taken to an orphanage at Tieling. The family say they are “overjoyed” to be reunited.
