SA coach backs Chikwaikwai

evans_chikwaikwai2HARARE - Bidvest Wits coach Roger de Sa has thrown his weight behind struggling Zimbabwean international striker Evans Chikwaikwai saying he will soon find his feet in the South African Premiership. (Pictured: Evans Chikwaikwai Coach says he will eventually come good)

The 2008 Zimbabwe top goal scorer, who joined Bidvest Wits at the beginning of the season, appears to be struggling to reproduce the form that made him such a feared striker during his days at Bulawayo side Njube Sundowns. But De Sa believes the Zimbabwean international was a good buy and that he would soon find his feet and compete with the top strikers in the ABSA Premiership in South Africa. “He hasn’t played much because of the injury he picked up when he came here and sometimes we introduce him as a substitute. Sometimes we play him wide so it would be unfair to judge him because he has not played his position. The reason he has not been playing his usual position is that we have Calvin Kadi playing there,” De Sa said.

Chikwaikwai has been overshadowed by former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Kadi. De Sa said: “He picked up an injury soon after he came here and that meant he missed a number of games. He has a meniscus tear and it looks like something that he had before he came here. But he just came back after Christmas and he looks good, he looks sharp. “He has two seasons left on his contract so he’ll be with us next season. We’ll work with him and make sure he realises his full potential.”
