Chief threaten villagers on constitution

CHIHOTA - Chief Samuriwo in Chihota is allegedly threatening villagers with the wrath of customary law if they go against Zanu (PF) on the issue of the constitution.

Villagers say they have been warned that there is no way they can get away with treachery, as Zanu (PF) has acquired secret recorders and cameras to capture individual contributions in the constitution process. Chief Samuriwo, Zanu (PF) officials, Shekede Saonyiko, Mufisi and Kwaramba (secretary to Ambrose Mutinhiri MP), last week told villagers gathered at Mahusekwa business centre that the constitution must come out right, said a villager.

The villagers were also urged to appreciate President Mugabes patriotism, and reward him with life presidency. Headman Gondo, however, disagreed with the chief and said people must be allowed to express their views on the constitution. People have also complained of what they described as slavery at the hands of Chief Samuriwo. Chief Samuriwo allegedly forces villagers to work in his fields three days a week. Failure to perform the duties attracts a $10-a-day fine.
