Chamisa, who was speaking at the party rally in Mbare on Sunday, said his party was losing patience with Zanu (PF), which had hardened its stance in the talks since its national congress. Zanu (PF) is hiding behind sanctions, he said. It is a sign of a party that has reached its end. Comments by British Foreign Secretary David Miliband that the country would be guided by the MDC in deciding on targeted measures have given Zanu (PF) an excuse to blame the MDC and refuse to deal with outstanding issues until the MDC calls for the removal of the measures.
Zanu (PF) is lying about the statement made by Miliband. We are a party that is respected internationally and we do not have anything to do with the British, said Chamisa. What Miliband said was that we are the only trustworthy party in the country and if the British wants to know the truth then they could only ask the MDC and not Zanu (PF). We have taken the matter to the SADC and if we disagree on the outstanding issues we shall call for elections with a new people-driven constitution. Recently MDC (T) Secretary-General Tendai Biti challenged Mugabe and his party to withdraw from the crisis-ridden coalition and call for a new election. Zanu (PF) cannot continue to be normative members of this government when they are working against it at any turn. Either they are in or they are out. If they are out then bring on the election, he said.
