Foreign markets for local goods

NYANYADZI The small and medium enterprises (SME) recently appealed to relevant authorities to hunt for foreign markets for their finished products.

A tour of various projects in Nyanyadzi revealed fine products being produced locally. These included agricultural and building equipment. Those interviewed expressed a need for export markets. We manufacture state of the art equipment here; the only problem is where to sell it, Milton Simbabure of Nyanyadzi said, adding that regional and international markets would boost the expansion of SMEs through foreign currency inflows.

Alfred Ngoshi, who produces farming implements such as ploughs, scotch carts and harrows, echoed same sentiments. The sector will grow only if responsible authorities increase foreign markets for our products, he said. We are not saying local markets do not promote growth, but there is need for regional and international integration. Export markets will increase competition both on the local and international scene. However, the traders said Zimbabwe should sign a memorandum of understanding for the development of the small and medium enterprises.
