HARARE, -ZIMBABWE premiership champions, Gunners Football Club have massacred visiting Zanzibar champions FC Mafunzo 4-0 to storm into the ....first round of the Orange African Club championship following Sunday’s convincing victory at Rufaro Stadium Gunners won the first leg in Zanzibar 2-1 before exploiting the home advantage to sail through with a comfortable 6-1 aggregate.
A brace from Ramson Zhuwawo and two other goals by Norman “Lumumba” Maroto and Willard Katsande were enough to see the Zimbabwean champions wrap up the match before a capacity crowd at the home of football, Rufaro.
The sweet win for the Zimbabwean premiership clubs at African safari has sent a strong message to the CAF that Zimbabwe is indeed a soccer power-house in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and needed respect in this tournament.
Gunners will now meet Egyptians giants Al-Ahly of Egypt in the first round of the African club championships
