Sables to prove their worth

rugby_zimHARARE - The Zimbabwe fifteens rugby side will be hoping to expose their talent when they host continental heavyweights, Kenya, on June 12 in their first assignment of a tri-nations series also involving Uganda.

The month-long series will be played in a home and away basis with the Sables seeking to prove something after emerging the biggest movers on the International Rugby Board rankings last year. They proved a force to reckon with in regional and continental tournaments that included the inaugural Confederation of Africa Rugby Southern Trophy where they came out champions.

After hosting Kenya, Zimbabwe will then travel to Uganda for their second assignment against their hosts, the following week. They will then play the return matches in July.

Zimbabwe Rugby Union president, Themba Sibanda, last week welcomed the fixture as a development that would boost the Sables performance in future tournaments.

Uganda is the highly ranked team among the three nations placed on number 42 on the IRB rankings, four places ahead of Zimbabwe. Kenya trail behind Uganda on position 41.

The Sables landed on position 46 after their victory in the regional showcase that featured Madagascar, Mauritius and hosts Botswana, last year.
