Meanwhile, superstar collaborators Jay-Z and Alicia Keys are reported to have scrapped plans to record a new song to mark this summer’s soccer World Cup in South Africa – because they do not know enough about the game.

Keys reveals they were approached to record a similar track in honour o f the 2010 FIFA World Cup, but they have decided against the idea after realising they lacked the knowledge about the game to write an appropriate tune.

She told media, “If we did a record about soccer it would be obvious we didn’ t know much more about the sport than who David Beckham is.”

But Keys is not letting her inexperience with soccer stop her from performing at the sporting event. She will join artists including the Black Eyed Peas, Shakira and John Legend to sing at the World Cup opening ceremony in Johannesburg on June 10.

The pair scored huge success with their hit song Empire State of Mind, which has become an unofficial Big Apple anthem and was adopted by fans o f the New York Yankees as they cheered on the baseball team to win the championship last year.

Beckham has become a household name in the U.S. since joining the Los Angeles Galaxy team in 2007.
