A meeting held recently in Harare and chaired by the Public Affairs Officer in the Prime Ministers office, Dennis Murara, resolved that childrens rights must be protected and apostles must move with time.

The PMs office committed itself to work with organizations representing interests of different people.

We resolved to set up committees made up of apostolic leadership at district and provincial level. The committees will be responsible for teaching sects members on importance of child immunization across the country, said Marondera District Secretary for Union for the Development of Apostolic Church in Zimbabwe (UDACIZA), Tonderai Chitaguda, who attended the meeting.

UNICEF approached PMs office, expressing concern at the increasing number of children dying from preventable diseases such as measles. The PMs office committed itself to work with different interested groups such as churches, NGOs, Labour Unions, business representatives and others, to contain epidemics and preventable diseases. In Zhombe, 13 measles associated deaths, were recorded in families of members of apostolic sects. The casualty statistics continue to rise across the county, said Chitaguda.

He said participants at the meeting noted that it was a violation of the rights of minors to deny them access to immunization. They must enjoy their rights like any other child.

A follow-up conference will be held in Harare end of this week. Interested parties such as PMs office, Ministries of Health, Education, Home Affairs and others are expected to attend. UDACIZA draws its membership from different apostolic churches. It regulates code of conduct among member churches.
