Bulawayo- The Bulawayo City Council has revised its penalties for those who abuse water as the city is heading for critical water shortages. The Mayor Councillor Thaba Moyo said that a special council meeting convened and deliberated that stiffer penalties have to be put to deter potential offenders. The Mayor revealed that those who use hosepipes will pay a fine of up to $100 and the pipes will be confiscated. Those found using domestic water for brick moulding will be charged $1000 whilst those who illegally connect water without engaging the Council engineers will pay up to $1500.
-The Mayor of Bulawayo has said the Council has received funds of up to $6 million from the Ministry of Finance. Moyo added that the council will use the funds to address water leakages and burst pipes. He revealed that up to 30% of the water in the city is lost through burst pipes and water leakages. Cllr Moyo added that Council wants to reduce the amount of water lost to about 9%.
