War vets take over school of nursing

Sources at the School of Nursing said the selection process was corrupt as war veterans and Zanu (PF) top officials were calling the shots. Recently the war vets, led by a former councillor and nurse at the hospital identified only as Marashwa, and Zanu (PF) provincial chairman Robert Sikanyika, disrupted the selection process of potential candidates. They demanded 90 per cent of the places, saying these should be allocated to their relatives and youth militias.

The war veterans descended at the School of Nursing with heaps of applications belonging to Zanu (PF) youth militias and demanded that they be short-listed for interviews. Marashwa, notoriously known for perpetrating violence against Movement for Democratic Change supporters during the 2008 election violence, was reported to have intimidated the School of Nursing administration staff including senior tutors saying that Zanu (PF) was still in control. Marashwa is just a nurse at this institute but medical superintendent and provincial medical director take orders from him. All those shortlisted are Zanu (PF) militias, said a source.
