The purpose of protecting the life of our Nation and preserving the liberty of our citizens is to pursue the happiness of our people. Our success in that pursuit is the test of our success as a party.
For so long we laboured to settle and to subdue a country. For the past 11 years we called upon unbounded invention and untiring volunteers to create an order of plenty for all of our people. The challenge until the next election is whether we have the wisdom to use that wealth of our supporters to enrich and elevate our party, and to advance the quality of life for all Zimbabweans.
We need, as a party, to go back to our grass roots and back to the drawing board and ascertain why we joined so that we can better solve the problems we face now. What kind of MDC do we want? I want a party that creates a better Zimbabwe free of poverty and injustice, a place where every child can find knowledge to enrich their mind and to enlarge their talents; a place where leisure is a welcome chance to build and reflect, not a feared cause of boredom and restlessness; a place where politics not only serves the needs of the powerful and the demands of commerce but the desire for beauty and the hunger for community.
We have a common enemy, and no its not Mugabe, its self interest and greed: we need to overcome this if we are to be successful party in government. Im calling upon all chairpersons to call for a meeting of unity, to better prepare us for the elections ahead so that we are not caught wanting come next year, lets prove that we are strong in our differences and in our diversity comes our strength!
