South Africa: Artistic national symbols

JOHANNESBURG - The Department of Arts and Culture (DAC) in host nation South Africa is running a campaign to educate the nation on the meaning behind the country's national symbols.

“All of our symbols have a special meaning to the people of the South Africa and are a visible representation of our African heritage, and the diverse nature of our communities. It is crucial for the future of a united South Africa, that every citizen respects these symbols and learn the protocol around them. This will give us a common identity,” Paul Mashatile, Deputy Minister of the Department of Arts of Culture, said this week.

The national flag and national anthem may be the most well-known and recognisable of the South African national symbols, but there are many others that the DAC want to promote.
