ZSSTA chief executive officer Paradzai Ramheiwa told The Zimbabwean that the move was part of its broader regional trade promotion strategy.
He said the retail shops were primarily intended to cater for small exporters in the province unable to explore export markets, and the first such facilities in Namibia were earmarked to open in July this year.
“Namibia is a traditional market for Zimbabwe and most of our products are used there. The shops would be used as conduits through which Zimbabwean products would be marketed in a particular market,” he said. In South Africa we are anticipating the World Cup. So the shops should be opened by end of this month. We are looking for traders here to sell their various wares like traditional regalia and sculptures,” said Ramheiwa .
Meanwhile, Ramheiwa said three Zimbabwean based companies last week took part at Mozambique Trade Show, a major business trade fair in the country. He said: “This had gone a long way towards consolidating our market.”
