Hope Masike stole the show

hopeZimbabwean born Hope Masike (Pictured) stole the show at the recent 2010 Fete de la Musique concert organised by Alliance Francaise in partnership with the European Union (EU) in Botswana.

Her splendid mbira playing is similar to Botswanas setinkane, and coupled with her energy and singing, the crowd was in a roar trying to sing along to the tunes she delivered in her native language. According to the young musical sensation, the kind of music she does is called Kuwe and it is a unique Afro-fusion of traditional Zimbabwean music and Jazz.

The French school takes pride in creating opportunities for local artists to showcase their talent and reach larger audiences as well as recognition from both local and international producers, and the Fete de la Musique concert is one such initiative that is in line with their mandate. With a thrilling line-up of local favourites across all scopes of music (from traditional dance to pop, rock n roll to jazz) to international acts that had the audience humming and singing in spite of the language barriers, this years show was a definite winter warmer.

The show, which started in the early afternoon and went on till just after midnight, had music lovers on their feet all day and night, with the winter night chills totally forgotten.
