Former Motor Action coach Jostein Mathuthu has been roped in to take charge of the team for the remainder of the season. Mathuthu trained the team from Thursday. He confirmed the development in an interview with The Zimbabwean at the weekend. “I was appointed head coach on Wednesday. I am charged with the task of guiding the team for the remainder of the season. I am happy with the way things are going so far. The players are very hungry for success and this is the kind of attitude I want from them,” he said.
Mathuthu will be assisted by Paul “Popo” Chimalizeni in the new set up. It, however, remains to be seen whether the Happy People, as Lengthens are affectionately known, will regain their form after a turbulent start to the season in which they have struggled for form.
Lengthens director John Chikochi said they were expecting a transformation of the team’s fortunes following the appointment of new coach Mathuthu.
“Mathuthu has experience and we hope he will be able to steer the team to glory. We have not been playing well of late and we decided to change the technical department hoping for better results,” he said. However, the Dzivaresekwa-based side is also facing serious cash flow problems which have seen the team management failing to pay players salaries and allowances in the past month.
