Speaking to The Zimbabwean this week, PSL chairman Twine Phiri, said the deal was almost done. He said they were waiting to tie up some loose ends before announcing their partnership with Net One. “Net One has confirmed interest to sponsor local football, but I can not say much at this stage because. We can only announce this once we have finalised everything,” he said.
The mobile phone operator also partnered with platinum mining company, Zimplats and CBZ during the high profile international friendly match against five time champions Brazil. NetOne also sponsored the former league champions Caps United in 2005, in a
development which led to a fierce row with rival company, Econet Wireless, who were the official sponsors of the whole league. Econet withdrew their sponsorship because of the bickering. The league was played the following year without a sponsor as a result of their withdrawal.Post published in: Zimbabwe Sports News
