Bulawayo- The constitution making process began in a wave of confusion with delegates for the thematic committees and rapporteurs being stranded in Bulawayo. The delegates, who spoke to the Daily Agenda said that a local hotel that was supposed to be used for accommodation for the thematic committees with some coming outside Bulawayo, were denied entry after being informed that the Constitutional Parliamentary Select committee (COPAC) had a debt. We were denied accommodation at the hotel which informed us that we can only be accommodated if COPAC pays up the debt it owes. Some of the people who were affected were coming outside Bulawayo and did not have alternative accommodation in the city, said one of the delegates. Nothing has been done by the COPAC, despite having informed the teams that they should have left for various centres by 7 am today. Sources have said that in Bulawayo nothing has been done and the delegates are said to be loitering in the city waiting for feedback from COPAC
Gwanda –Communities in Matabeleland South province have called on the government and donor agencies to assist in food security highlighting that there is a serious shortage of food in their area due to poor harvests. They said that the sporadic rains that were experienced this year had a negative impact on their farming productivity adding that the dams had also run dry affecting their water supply. The communities said that unavailability of water has severely affected livestock farming in the area with many cattle dying due to lack of water.
