The Ed Hammond Open tournament was organised for juniors, but ZABA technical director Petros Musiyambumbi said seniors would also be given a chance to exhibit their fighting skills.
“This is a multi-purpose tournament. Since most provinces are preparing for the National Youth Games, we are going to use this event to assess the progress that has been made. We also have a team that was selected to represent the country at the Zone Six championships and we are going to use the competition to prepare for the competition to be held in Swaziland later this year, he said.
“We are expecting 100 to 120 fighters, including senior men and women, but our main focus is on the juniors since we are preparing for the youth games. There will be 60 bouts in this tournament and we hope to have another major tournament in Harare soon,” added Masiyambumbi.
