Having barely unpacked their bags after touring Germany, Austria and South Africa in May and June, Comrade Fatso and Chabvondoka set off for Serbia in Eastern Europe, where they gave a performance at the giant EXIT festival, one of Europe’s most prestigious festivals.
Running from July 8-11 the EXIT Festival that attracts up to 50,000 people a day has featured names such as Madonna, Snoop Dogg and Wu Tang Clan. It has been running for over 10 years, and has become a key festival on the European circuit. Comrade Fatso and Chabvondoka performed on the Suba Stage at EXIT alongside major names like Missy Elliot, David Guetta, The Chemical Brothers and Faith No More.
From the success of the Serbia show Comrade Fatso flew to the Caribbean island of Barbados where he was one of the headline acts at the Crop Over Festival, the island’s biggest festival. Crop Over is a festival that reverberates to the island sounds of calypso and soca. The festival kicked off on Wednesday July 21 and Fatso performed at the Crop Over Read-In on Thursday July 22 at the Barbados Museum alongside leading US and Barbadian acts.
Comrade Fatso and Chabvondoka are some of Zimbabwes most toured artists and have performed at events and festivals all over the world. Last year their tour stops included the Sauti za Basara Festival in Zanzibar, the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown, South Africa, gigs in Reunion, an April tour of the United States which saw them hit Princeton, New Jersey, Washington DC and Massachussetts, then back later in June for the Sierra Nevada Festival in Booneville.
