UK immigration expiry

LONDON For those who were granted five year refugee leave in the UK in 2005, rather than indefinite leave to remain (ILR), have been advised that it will expire in August this year and immediate action needs to be taken.

The UK Border Agency (UKBA) has not yet announced how it will consider applications by people in this category for indefinite leave to remain, but it is essential that refugees do not wait for their leave to expire before making applications.

The Zimbabwe Association (ZA) recently released a statement advising refugees to apply for leave or they would risk becoming an overstayer. An overstayer would lose their right to work and claim benefits. They would also have to re-establish their need to protection.

Do NOT become an overstayer. Check when your current leave expires and take legal advice about making an application for further leave to remain, read the statement.
