mdc_logoIt is now 12 days to the MDCs 11th anniversary celebrations that will be held at Gokwe centre on 11 September 2010.

Thousands of Zimbabweans from all over the country and abroad are expected to attend this carnival event, which will be held under the theme: Our promise for real change.

Meanwhile, President Tsvangirai has described the late MDC founding vice president, Gibson Sibanda as a man of principles. He was speaking at his burial in Silalatshani area in Filabusi, Matebeleland South province. He said the history of the MDC could not be told leaving out Gibson Sibanda. Present at the funeral were the vice president, Hon. Thokozani Khupe, Professor Arthur Mutambara, MPs, Cabinet ministers and government officials.

On Sunday, the MDC national chairperson, Hon. Lovemore Moyo who is also the Speaker of Parliament launched the Speakers annual sports tournament at Maphisa growth point in Kezi, Matebeleland South province. Hon. Moyo said the tournament was a way of bringing together the local people through sport and also giving back to the community. The tournament saw 14 soccer and netball teams from the area participating.The winners walked away with various prizes, which included cash, soccer kits and trophies.

Thousands of MDC supporters at the weekend turned up for the new MDC membership card colourful launches that were held in various provinces across the country. The new card was launched in Harare by President Morgan Tsvangirai on Friday. The membership card launches are being held under the theme: Your master card to real change. They launches are taking place at a time when the party is on a massive membership recruitment drive to galvanise and strengthen its structures and to reach out to Zimbabweans at the grassroots level.

MDC national chairperson, Hon. Lovemore Moyo launched the event at Gwalale business centre in Matobo North, Matebeleland South province on Saturday while Senator Morgen Komichi was at Gokwe Centre, Midlands North province and Nyimo business centre on Saturday.
