Coach hails team character

rugby_gameJOHANNESBURG - Zimbabwe Rugby Sevens manager Bruce Hobson, hailed his sides character after the national team overcame a severe injury to one of its members and win the Castle Sevens in Zambia last week.

The Cheetahs suffered a setback in the final against South Africa after Taffi Mhende was badly injured in a collision in mid field.

It took about 15 minutes to stabilise him and send him off to hospital. However, when play resumed, Zimbabwe absorbed some sustained pressure from the and after a break out Njabulo Ndlovu forced his way over for another try and put the game beyond doubt at 19 10.

What made this victory so special was that the players had to dig deep to win after seeing a colleague sustain such a bad injury, Hobson said from Harare.

Mhende had surgery performed on his leg last Tuesday and his condition was stable.

We wish him a speedy recovery and a return to his Cheetahs team, said Hobson.

He said the team was grateful to the support and assistance from their sponsor, retail company, Spar and Zimbabwe rugby union president, Themba Sibanda.
