COPAC team kicked out of hotel

unpaid bill hits $30,000
BULAWAYO - Hundreds of Constitutional Parliamentary Committee (COPAC) outreach team members were left stranded on Sunday night after they were evicted from Bulawayo Rainbow Hotel.

The members were evicted by the hotel management after failure by their organisation to settle an outstanding bill which had ballooned to more than US$30 000.

When this reporter visited the hotel on Sunday evening, outreach team members were seen milling around outside the hotel and some were just seated in their cars not knowing what to do.

We have been evicted as you can see and I have no idea where I will put up tonight, said one.

Those who were lucky to have relatives in Bulawayo were seen being picked up by their relatives.

I am from Matebeleland North and after this eviction had no option but to call my sister who stays here to pick me up, said one team member who preferred to be called only Ncube.

Contacted for comment, COPAC co-chairperson Edward Mkhosi confirmed the eviction saying that the hotel management was now demanding payment in cash.

COPAC outreach team members from Matebeleland North , South provinces and a few from Bulawayo have been staying at the hotel since the programme kicked off in June. Thabani Shumba
