Export challenges

MUTARE Manufacturing companies in Zimbabwe should be assisted in coming up with ways to deal with export challenges in order to boost foreign currency inflows, a senior economist has said.

In an interview with The Zimbabwean on the sidelines of a workshop that ran under the theme: Addressing supply side constraints for export competitiveness Thomas Dube, an economic consultant, said the government should assist local businesses to re-strategise and regain their regional competitive edge.

There is need for Zimbabwean producers to re-strategise in order to regain their regional competitive edge, he said.

Manufacturing companies should be assisted in coming up with ways to deal with export challenges in light of recently deregulated exchange control requirements. The government should address the issues of regional and international supply chain, dealing with supply side constraints through toll manufacturing, building capacities funding for export success and building capacities through contracting.

Firms are encouraged to take advantage of the deregulated environment to approach external financiers to source lines of credit to rehabilitate their equipment and machinery, he said.
