In an interview with SW Radio Africa on Thursday Mtetwa said; We became aware that they were looking for Roy at the beginning of the month. From September they went to various premises that he has previously occupied and business premises that they thought were associated with him.
Mtetwa said the police were inquiring about Bennetts whereabouts but refusing to disclose why they wanted to see him. They first refused to identify themselves but later Inspector Muchada from police Law and Order did. A letter Mtetwa subsequently wrote to the police asked for the reasons why a posse of notorious C.I.D Law and Order officers, are stalking his premises when it is known that he is currently out of the country.
In May this year Bennett, the MDC-T nominee for Deputy Agriculture Minister, was acquitted on charges of attempting to overthrow Mugabe. The state applied for permission to appeal the acquittal and Chief Justice Godfrey Chidyausiku is still to rule on the matter.
We understand that there is a complaint from a judge but we dont know which judge and what the complaint is about, Mtetwa told us. She said information reaching them is that police want to file a contempt of court charge based on remarks Bennett allegedly made in an interview with the UK Guardian online news site.
Despite Mugabe telling international news agency CNN in an interview that he would swear in Bennett once the courts had cleared him, the ZANU PF leader has chosen instead to use him as a political bargaining chip. Mtetwa also confirmed the same, telling us the case is deliberately designed to ensure there is a case in court pending against him however spurious, to make sure he does not become Minister.
