Speaking to journalists Mwonzora said that the MDC is going to the outreach meetings over the weekend in protest but was quick to say the MDC has not given in to Zanu PF machinations. “Zanu PF wants to create problems, so we are going under protest. We are did not want to derail the whole process so we decided that we go along with the one venue per ward that Zanu PF was demanding, however if any problem occur over attendance, then we will have to postpone the meetings. We want to ensure that everyone participate in the constitution making process,” said Mwonzora.
Zanu PF has blocked the constitution outreach meeting per ward in Harare only because it is a MDC stronghold, however Bulawayo will have two meetings per ward. Zanu PF militants have set camp in most parts of Harare, and their genuine fears that the meetings would be disrupted. “As the MDC we have mobilized and we are certain that people will go to contribute to the process,” said Mwonzora.
