Most Zimbabweans are still battling to overcome the trauma of tribal and political related violence, such as the 1985 Gukurahundi bloodbath where close to 200 000 people lost their lives and the June 2008 elections which also saw hundreds of people killed. It is against this backdrop that various artistes from different genres collaborated, using music as a tool to speak to the people and a way to complement efforts by the inclusive government to heal and reconcile masses.
The album, which was produced by Khulekani Bethule aka Khuxman is titled Bambanani (Unite) and is being distributed for free in order to reach out to all Zimbabweans. The eight track album was done in Shona and Ndebele. It preaches the gospel of unity, reconciliation and forgiveness. Lwazilenkosi Mcheeznana Skuza and Majahodwa Jeys Marabini Ndlovu are some of the notable artistes who feature on the album.
The two outstanding songs are Zimbabwe and Varegerere (Forgive Them), which urges local country folks to forgive one another, unite and restore sanity and peace by cultivating a culture of togetherness. The album is meant to complement government efforts. We want to unite and bring peace between the people regardless of how dark our pasts might be. We need to work together as one for the benefit of the country and the album speaks such a language. It will be distributed to all Zimbabweans for free, said Khuxman.
