There has been a marginal growth since 2008 and with the way the Zimbabwean economy is improving at the moment, I can foresee a sustainable improvement for the company, said Andre Wessels, a sales executive for National Cables, which manufactures and imports power cables.
National Cables mainly supplies cable to mining companies like Zimplats and ZESCO and several contractors from Zimbabwe, exports to Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Zambia, Namibia, Botswana and Nigeria .
It is difficult to say offhand, but I think that our business deals with Zimbabwean companies have been averaging US$500 000 and upwards during the past two years and it looks like the trade will get even stronger because the Zimbabwean economy seems to be getting even stronger. With such a trend, most companies will be looking at improving their infrastructure and that means improving their electric infrastructure as well.
Wessels, whose company is part of the General Cables Group that boasts 49 companies in the world and also has branches in Angola and Botswana, added that they found it easy to ship its exports to Zimbabwe from any of the neighbouring countries.
